CCM Philosophy

Motivated by a desire to help individuals, marriages, and families be all that God desires for them, Dell and Susan Canright, with the help of several local pastors and churches, established Christian Counseling of Mansfield in August of 2003. While Dell is responsible for the philosophy and direction of the counseling ministry itself, Susan is the person behind the scenes that keeps the ministry operating and functioning on a day to day basis. Hers is more than likely the first voice you will hear when you contact the office; she will answer any questions you may have and help you get scheduled with one of our counselors.  Dell and Susan have been married since 1981. They have three married children and five awesome grandkids (Maleigh, Nathan, Lincoln, Anna Grace, and Taya Grace)!  He and Susan also were also involved with Buckner Baptist Homes as foster parents to seven wonderful children.

Dell received his Master of Arts in Biblical Counseling from Dallas Theological Seminary in December of 1999. After completing his internship at Christian Counseling Associates in Bedford, he was licensed by the state of Texas as a Licensed Professional Counselor in 2003. He later earned his certification to become a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor for interns.  Before becoming a counselor, Dell spent 6 years as a teacher (one of those being as an Associate Missionary teaching missionary kids with New Tribes Mission, now known as Ethnos360); he and Susan also served on church staff for 9 years as youth ministers, and their mutual passion is to see individuals, marriages, and families grow into the likeness of Christ through the ministry of the Scriptures.  Dell has a real passion to see men become equipped to lead their families well, husbands learning to love their wives well, and the family growing into a community that models Christ-likeness in all aspects of the family relationship.

Nikki McGowen earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at Austin and her masters degree in counseling from Liberty University. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor Intern and does a great job working with individuals, couples, families, and children at Christian Counseling of Mansfield.

Nikki and her husband Matt were married in August of 2012; they have two small children, a dog and a rabbit. Nikki has worked in early childhood education here in the United States as well as overseas in Vietnam. She has also worked on staff at her church, and has served in leadership roles with the Women’s Ministry. Currently, on the days she’s not working, she is a stay-at-home mother to her kids. She has a passion for bearing with others, and spurring them on to know, love and follow the Lord.

While our staff counselors come from diverse backgrounds, each of them is committed to counseling from a Biblical framework.  This simply means that not only do they believe the Scriptures are inspired by God (2 Timothy 3:16, 17), but that they also believe the Scriptures are sufficient for all matters pertaining to life and godliness (2 Peter 1:3).  Either Dell or Nikki would welcome an opportunity to meet with you and/or your family.

**We can generally accommodate counselees within a few days after the initial contact.  It would be our joy to serve you with your counseling needs, whether that is for individual, marriage, or family counseling. To make your initial appointment please visit our contact us page.
